Hedwig Neels is a physiotherapist with a PhD in women’s pelvic health, working at the Antwerp University and Antwerp University Hospital. She is specialised in pelvic floor rehabilitation, perinatal physiotherapy and in manual therapy. She combines scientific research, education in physiotherapy and clinical work. Hedwig (co-)authored more than 25 peer reviewed manuscripts and is the author of “Het bekkenbodemboek” written to educate and empower women. Hedwig is a committed member and ambassador in several committees and special interest groups of the international Urogynecological Association IUGA and national associations in Belgium. She was a visiting scholar at Sydney University in 2019, and since then has been working with 3D/4D transperineal ultrasound to assess and manage pelvic floor maternal trauma and pelvic organ prolapse in women. Hedwig is leading a societal valorisation project (www.thepelvicfloor.be) with a strong passion to improve the prevention of pelvic floor dysfunction in women.
