Professional Bio
Improving teachers’ knowledge and capabilities in promoting children and adolescents’ physical activity levels and health outcomes through the curriculum and throughout the school day is the guiding passion of my career. My main research contributions focus on developing theory-based health promotion interventions for implementation in schools to enhance students’ physical activity levels, fitness, motivation, health and other learning outcomes (e.g. health literacy). I have been a chief investigator on several large-funded research projects that have national and international status. These research projects use evidence-informed practices and theoretical frameworks from psychology and education to develop, implement and evaluate school-based physical activity interventions such as iPLAY (ARC DP APP1114281), Resistance Training for Teens (funded by the NSW Department of Education) and Addressing health and climate challenges in Australia and the Pacific region (funded by the USYD ISCP). Just recently, I have engaged in research around postpartum women, with young children, and regular participation in physical activity through group-based programs (including organised sport).
